Prioritising Your Pleasure – A Journey Through Your Senses

I’m curious!  What’s your take on pleasure?  How do you define it? Can you feel it, and do you know how to bring more of it into your life? This episode of Queen Be Buzzcast explores your definition of pleasure and how you can expand it on a daily basis.

Perhaps you only think of pleasure in relation to your sexuality or sex life? Perhaps it’s something that you’ve been raised to believe as being a waste of time, frivolous, or even dangerous and destructive?

For me, pleasure is not so much something that you do, it’s a way of being and operating. An energy in your body, a flow of aliveness and connectedness with our internal and external worlds and a devotion to expanding this flow as a daily ritual.

Unfortunately, women’s pleasure has been hijacked by a myriad of things. From fundamental religious beliefs that discourage anything other than serving the Lord, to advertising that compartmentalises and fetishes pleasure in order to make profit, to porn videos that have turned woman’s pleasure into something that only serves to satisfy the male gaze.

It’s no wonder we feel so disconnected from pleasure when we are cultured to believe that it’s wrong, sinful, shameful or something that can only be prescribed by others.

I am here to shout from the rooftops that your please is right, needed and absolutely necessary because a woman’s life lived without pleasure, is a life that is devoid of joy. I am here to stake a claim for the wildness in you that has been supressed for so long and support you to honour yourself in setting this free. I am here to help you create your own definition of pleasure away from patriarchy and capitalism and help you feel it, experience it and build stamina for it on your terms.

Everyone will have different starting points to experiencing pleasure based on previous experiences, labelling, and cultural beliefs, but we all have the ability to connect with our own version of pleasure, that nourishes our souls, fills our hearts and allows us to move through life in a more powerful way.

So where do we start?

As a Feminine Embodiment coach, I believe that pleasure is rooted within our bodies but that it can also be accessed via our 5 external senses, which connect our body to the outside world. 

 Sight:

The things that we look at on a daily basis, are they pleasing, or do they agitate you? 

Touch:

Surrounding yourself with beautiful, soft, silky textures to touch or feel against your skin.

Taste:

Taking the time to taste and savour amazing food instead of mindless eating.

Sound:

Paying attention to, or seeking out certain sounds around you – bird song, laughter, flowing water. Listening to music that expands pleasure in your body. 

Smell:

Lighting your favourite candle or using essential oils to enjoy your favourite smells. 

These are all simple things that we can intentionally place in our daily lives so that we are surrounded by more beauty, sensuality, textures and sensations that open the gateway to experiencing pleasure.

Take some time now to create your own pleasure list under the heading of your 5 senses and start by asking “what would give me pleasure?” Be bold and commit to creating layers of pleasure through all 5 senses so that you are completely intentional in your environment and devoted to making pleasure your priority.
