Embodying Change – A Season of Descent

Rain beats against my window as fierce winds move through the garden. I sit in my favourite chair, wrapped in a blanket, coffee in hand, reflecting on how to share the past few months with you — months that took me down, rinsed me out and taught me deeper lessons about surrendering and embodying change.

I know this descent well: the spiritual kind that pulls you without asking. The kind that says, it’s time! Time to loosen your grip on the way things are and listen more deeply to your soul.

You can feel this type of change in your body — the tight chest, the churning belly, the clenched jaw that knows you cannot continue this way.

Embodying change by listening to the body

So, I surrendered to what I felt.

I breathed with the constrictions in my body and met my fear with curiosity. Moved gently with the weight of my grief rather than trying to outrun it.

Instead of forcing answers, I stayed close to sensation — trusting that my body knew the way forward.

I stayed devoted to simple, daily practices such as calling my soul back, sitting in nature, and bringing movement into my bones. Some days that looked like embodiment practice on my mat. Other days it was nothing more than a wintery walk in the woods.

Rather than saying yes, I said no to everything except that which I could truly hold. I turned inward, asked for soul guidance, and listened.

Incredible support came from a powerful spiritual teacher who met me exactly where I was, while also inviting me to imagine what else is possible.

Moving forward by going through

I won’t pretend this came with constant grace — it didn’t.

Parts of me resisted and other parts tried to bypass the fear, shame, and grief.  Some parts wanted to silence the grief that comes from dismantling the old to make space for the new. Hello, being human!

Even so, I knew the truth: the only way forward was through.

And slowly, things began to shift. They softened, cleared and alchemised.

What needed to fall away became clearer and what wanted to emerge made itself known. I began shedding layers of identity so I could prioritise my heart and choose how I want to move through this intense world.

So today, I’m writing to simply share this experience — the place we all reach in midlife, where we can choose to ignore, resist, shut down, and stay in pain…

OR

soften, open, and find the courage to move through our experiences.

It’s in the moving through that deeper self-connection forms and where embodied change takes place.

Questions for you...

If this resonates, I’d love to hear from you.

What are you moving through right now? What feels ready to soften, shift, or be released? You’re welcome to share your reflections in the comments — or pass this along to someone who might need these words today.

You don’t have to walk these seasons alone.
