I’m curious—how do you usually work through challenges and change?
Do you think your way through them? Research theories to understand your patterns and behaviours? Look outside yourself for help… maybe even turn to AI therapy? 🙋🏼♀️
If you do, you’re definitely not alone.
We’ve learned to approach problems, obstacles, and change through intellectualisation. We’ve trained our minds to create strategies and make sense of things. To organise knowledge into neat boxes so we can “understand” what’s happening and feel some sense of control.
BUT…
While this approach can be helpful, intellectualisation often hides as a sneaky form of self-sabotage that keeps you stuck.
Do any of these sound familiar to you?
🧠 You use logic as a shield to avoid feeling your emotions and bodily sensations.
🧠 Enjoy the dopamine hit of an “ah-ha” moment but never follow through with processing or integration, so nothing really changes.
🧠 Accept knowledge as truth without checking how it feels in your body—is it actually true for you?
🧠 Convince yourself you’re “doing the work,” when really, intellectualising protects you from the risk of change, being ‘bad’ at something or getting things wrong.
Let’s pause here and take a breath 😮💨
Intellectualisation itself isn’t wrong. It only becomes harmful when you stop at your neck and ignore the vast data, wisdom, and experience living in your body.
As one of my clients put it beautifully:
“When I first met Sarah, I lived entirely in my head, and being in my body felt completely unsafe. Our work together helped me tell the difference between somatic wisdom and mind-driven meaning. With Sarah’s support, I began to practice flowing between the two, understanding the unique role and benefit of each. I can now trust the messages from my body, instead of grasping for meaning that my mind tries to assign.”
This is why embodiment creates real, deep, lasting transformation. Because it invites your whole being to be felt, witnessed, welcomed, and understood.
