Why Am I So Full of Rage?

If you frequently find yourself asking, “why am I so full of rage?…” There’s something that rage desperately wants you to know!

So, today I want to share a story with you. Because today I’m celebrating 6 months of home educating our son. The very day that I let my rage start making some important rules!

Our full story is long, but the part I want to share focuses around our experience of expectations and rules.

You see, rage is often a sign of deep injustice.  A message that harmful ‘rules’ and expectations need to be burnt down and restructured in ways that feels more aligned with who you are.

In our case, we spent 6 years bending over backwards. Trying to comply with rules and expectations. Questioning ourselves as parents and diagnosing what was ‘wrong’ with our son.

There was guilt, shame, anxiety, frustration and then eventually… rage.

A rage so visceral, it couldn’t be ignored. A rage that said in no uncertain terms  “there’s nothing wrong with you, there’s nothing wrong with your son. BUT there is something very wrong with this experience and it’s time to leave.”

This is what rage does if you allow it. It shows you where the line is, tells you what you need to fight for and when you need to leave.

It shows you what or who needs to go and what or who needs to stay. The values that you want to live by and the truth that you have the power within you to make necessary changes happen.

I didn’t know this 6 years ago, but I absolutely do now!

We often fear or shame the power of our rage because we see it as chaotic and destructive, when in fact its presence is a signal that something’s fundamentally wrong.

When you learn to feel, witness, be with and embrace your rage, you begin to fear it less. Instead, seeing it more as a familiar force who’s there to show you what needs to be done.

In turn you start to question the conditioning that taught you to accept rules and expectations without question. You begin to ask, “who made these rules and why?”

Your rage upends conventionality, switches on your integrity and realigns you with ways of being that help you – those you care about and the world around you – to flourish. I know this to be true because I’ve seen it in myself, my son and the women I have the privilege to coach.
