Achieving Fierce Intimacy with Yourself and Others

I’m curious—how often do you reject fierce intimacy?

And I don’t mean with the classic “I’ve got a headache” excuse!

I’m talking about the subtle, unconscious ways you push others away when they get too close.

Ways you might reject intimacy.

Maybe you avoid physical touch. Dismiss offers of help. Default to being critical or harsh or feel stuck in overdrive and hyper-vigilance?

In your body, these rejections might show up as flinching or bracing, clenching your jaw or buttocks, sucking in your stomach, narrowing your vision, or holding your breath.

You use these patterns (both the external and the somatic) to protect yourself from intimacy. Because staying in control, appearing “independent,” or even slipping into martyrdom often feels safer than stepping into the raw vulnerability that true connection demands.

Yet – despite living in a world that’s more connected than ever – we deeply crave intimacy. Real, grounded, soul-satisfying connection.

I know because I crave it too and I hear that same longing in nearly every woman I speak to.

Bringing intimacy back into your relationship

So, let me ask you another question:

How often do you choose intimacy with yourself?

Because that’s where it begins. When you learn to sit with and tend to your own vulnerability, you build the safety needed to share it with others.

That kind of self-intimacy might look like showing compassion and curiosity toward the parts of you that you normally judge.

Being honest about how you really feel and what you truly need.

Slowing down enough to actually notice the world around you.

You might deepen your breath. Relax your jaw. Unclench your muscles. Land more softly in the spaces you move through.

That’s fierce intimacy and humanity. Allowing you to show up exactly as you are and connect in ways that might feel raw, but will also feel honest, real, and fulfilling.
